Battle #1: Vorchan vs G'lin. G'lin is a Narn CL, found off of one of the web pages noted in various places on the list. In early exchanges, the Narn's heavy lasers stripped away one of the Vorchan's twin arrays and caused some structure damage. After that, however, the Vorchan's superior maneuverability let him stay well out of laser/twin-array arc and pulse-cannon range. Ended up nibbling the poor Narn to death with the single twin array and the occasional plasma shot. Battle #2: G'quan vs Centarum. Again, the Centarum is off the nets, it's a slightly stripped-down Primus which trades off two of the battle lasers for a heavy plasma gun. Which proved /very/ effective on turn 3, when it scored a Primary hit and completely destroyed the G'quan's engine. Battle #3: Convoy escort. Primus's and Vorchan's vs G'quan's, G'lin's, and transports. Despite entering on the opposite end of the map, the Centauri battle lasers were quite able to 'reach out and trash someone': the transports. All in all, I think the Vorchan is effective as-is, especially with at least one Primus along to provide fighter cover. It's the transports that are so damn vulnerable, especially to laser fire. Suggestion for AoG: include rules on 'martyr blocks', where one ship deliberately interposes itself between an enemy and its target. It would have to be part of the movement order, I think, to be effective and balanced, and perhaps provide a penalty to the blocking ship's own fire (more interested in maintaining blocking position than aligning its own guns with the target)... and, of course, ECM-loaning!! -- =============================================================================== | croaker@servtech.com | "I *HEARD* That!!!" | | Known to Reality as | -- Warrick Morgannen, | | Chris Nasipak |_________________ Archmage of Pittsburgh. | | http://www.servtech.com/public/croaker/index.html | | ===============================================================================
