Hall" To: babylon5-wars@CSUA.Berkeley.EDU Send reply to: babylon5-wars@CSUA.Berkeley.EDU Fought a battle with the new HCVs yesterday, & I thought I'd say how it went. Forces: 2 Rongoth & 9 Frazis vs. 1 Altarian, 2 Vorchans & 6 Sentris. Backstory: A Centauri raid on a Narn asteroid base (off-map). The Narn forces are a system defence force. Rules: No house rules, FTR dropout on D20 < hits, floating map, flight level rules. The Centauri led with the Vorchans, abreast, @ speed 8 then the Altarian @ 6, followed by the Sentris@ 10. My Narn forces were all abreast, with the Rongoths on the outside, DDs @ 6,fighters @ 9. On the first turn, we closed and the Centauri accellerated to 10 with thier DDs. On turn 2 the Vorchans closed head on with my Rongoths, and fire was exchanged @ 10 hexes. The plasma accellerators were largely ineffectual at this range, doing little damage. I fired 3 HPCs & a twin array @ V1, and 1HPC, a twin, & allof the frazis at V2, but unfortunately failed to kill either plasma acc. , damaging one PA & two twins on V1 and stripping both twins from V2. The Centauri were being very defensive with thier EW and timid with thier Sentris, and anti- fighter fire was ineffectual. We manuvered until turn 6, with some minor fire at long range. On turn 6 I mistakenly attacked V1 from the front @ close range with my (7) Frazis, thinking it was the one without any twins. Between the Vorchans twins & long-range fire from the Altarian, only two lived to attack, and they did little damage. One then dropped out & the other died while running on turn 7. Next turn one Rongoth blew the front off V2, which then disengaged, but my anti-fighter fire all missed, and the Sentris blew off it's main thrust. On turn 8 my non-manuvering DD was ganged up on by the Altarian & the Sentris, resulting in it's loing it's aft structure and sensors ( hit 5 times by the fighters! ).My other DD dealt heavy, but not crippling damage to the front of the Altaian in return. More hard manvering occured until turn 10, when my other Rongoth lost it's main thrust to the Altairian and Sentris, whereon, outnumbered and having no manuvering units, I conceded. Oh well, I've always preferred the Centauri, anyway... Lessons: I threw the game with that suicidal stunt with my Frazis. The Centauri should have been more aggressive with thier Sentris, and manuvered harder with thier Vorchans, early on. I should have been less greedy, and concentrated fire better. The heavy firepower and excellent fire arcs of the Altairian's twin arrays, combined with it's high sensor rating are a formidable threat, for ships and fighters both. The Rongoth's excellent manuverability is somewhat compromised by it's low side thruster capacity. All in all, it was a well-balanced, competitive game. -Kle.
