AXIOM: Destroy the enemies maneuverability (aka High Ground) In a more normal sense, maneuverability is the equivalent of high ground. Hold an advantage there and you will be able to maximize your effectiveness. Applications of this axiom include ... 1> Target the enemies most maneuverable DANGEROUS units first. (DANGEROUS is there to differentiate between maneuverable but toothless units, like Sentris against well armoured ships.). Very good candidates are HCVs and medium shps which can and should be targetted with long range cap ship fire. Once those units get close, they will maneuver out of cap ship arcs and have a field day. Kill them first, possibly second if there are really dangerous fighters. 2> Rear sector shots, in addition to the obvious advantage of being out of his main gun arcs, seriously impair the maneuverability of the enemy unit and are thus very valuable. Foregoing a ranged shot at a front or side for a better shot at a rear is probably a good thing. Ships are forced to utilize multiturn pivots to gain any maneuvering after their rear sections are gone. 3> HCvs must use their maneuverability to deny the enemy good offensive shots. "Trading fire" results in a crippled/useless HCV and an injured Cap ship. Outflank him first, then fire. As with any axiom, specific circumstances may force different choices. Loosely i define a tactical axiom as a general observation with specific applications that can be identified. Axioms should be applicable in and have been seen in multiple engagements. Any other Axioms out there? Sure there are? tell me some more! Steve Rushing swrushing@compuserve.com http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/swrushing icq uin 5168803
