Send reply to: babylon5-wars@CSUA.Berkeley.EDU Omegas: Disadvantages: Slow as buggery, about as manuaverable as a brick - without an engine, poor EW, poor arc on rear firing weapons, poor armor. Advantages: 4 good forward firing weapons, 12 excelent light weapons. lots of damage boxes, energy web. How to use an Omega: Get close. Bloody close. 5 hexes is about right - closer is better still. Be prepared to take that damage, but remember the interceptors vs things like Plasma weapons (two are good thats -7 + another 4 for the web thats -11). Just go straight at your target. Fire those particle beams continously, +6 and -1/hex is not to foul, and 1d6+7 hurts. At close range they are unbeatable by anything but a sharlin (which takes them apart for almost the same reasons it takes everything else apart.) An excellent strategy is to combine extended with overpaid turns, this can do some surprising things. (At speed 4 you can turn an Omega in 2 turns. And if you do it right you can stil fire you rear heavies at what you just shot at... Plus still firing particle cannons of course. Summary: At long range the Omega is next to useless - the range penalties on the Heavy lasers are just too big compared to say a Primus. (Of course if its carring a full compliment of starfuries - well thats another story) On the other hand once it gets close to something no cheaper ship can stand a chance. It just depends on the situation. 1 raider light fighter could (eventually) take down a vorchan - all it has to do is get behind the thing. Omegas weakness is that its useless at range. Similarly once some damage has been done I've found the Primus can't take on an Omega.
