Send reply to: babylon5-wars@CSUA.Berkeley.EDU Played a simple scenario last night. (How depressing - I spent my firday playing b5w, and saturday night writing about it...) Anyway, I had a Nova (EA Copernicus) (refered to as C from here) & 12 Starfuries. Against me was david addison with an Omega (Iwo Jima - refered to as IJ) & 24 starfuries. Points wise the battle was close enough to even. Scenario Overview: (We made it up on the spot - give us a break) The IJ (anti-clarke), was defecting to join Sheridans fleet moving towards earth. (btw in australia we just saw `No Surrender, No Retreat'). The C had been ordered to intercept the IJ and stop it from reaching the fleet. Shortly after arriving from a jump point the IJ sees the C. Both ships launch there fighters. The IJ has 10 turns before he can jump Full Victory: Nova: Prevent Iwo Jima from leaving. Omega: Esacpe in good condition, including fighters Partial VIctory: Nova: Destroy the Iwo Jima Omega: Escape alive. Turn 1: Both ships deactivate various weapons for ew. (C: all rear firing lasers) The C (speed 8) moves towards the IJ. The IJ hangs back. (speed 1) The IJs starfuries streak towards the C, the C's sit in in defensive positions. Turn 2: The C still moves towards the IJ, diong a rather bazaar pair of turns (extra thrust is nice). (The C is now on the same line of hexes aa the IJ). Minor figther fire. The C has a single(!) laser array damaged. Some IJ fighters are destroyed. One C fighter is destroyed. Turn 3: The C continues towards the IJ - Fighter engagements continue. More minor damage to the C. Severe loses to the IJs fighters (note the C still hasn't fired!) Some fighter loses to C. Turn 4: IJs fighters are severly scattered, resulting in an inability to effectively engage the C. Turn 5: The C gets 4 hexes away from the IJ - in a staight line... The battle ends... In turn 5 the IJ did approx 60 points of damage to the C all told. The C stopped rolling damage (both players agreed the IJ was dead) after it had totally removed the fore section of the IJ. We had resolved 4!! Dual laser cannons at this point. Estimate the C would have done another 240 points of damage to the IJ by the end of the turn! Thoughts: The IJ should have just run, instead he allowed the C to get close. There were also a few mistakes with the Ijs fighters, and starfuries clean up starfuries really damn well... The C fighters did a really good job of distracting the IJs and only suffered light losses for it. The IJ needed to get the fighters in close to the C and hit it as early as possible. Overall: The Nova is WAY powerful. My suggesions for depowering it: Free thrust = 0 - make the ship deactivate something to get the power. EW: say 6. Oonce again its so easy to buy extra ew. This means the ship has to spend 15 points to get it to 8... Power Deficate: -10. Once again don't let them arm the all the weapons at once. It hurts but I think it will make it even. Thoughts anyone?
