From: "Geoffrey Long" To: babylon5-wars@CSUA.Berkeley.EDU Subject: [B5W]: Olympus Battle Report(long) Date sent: Sat, 25 Jul 1998 02:06:32 PDT Send reply to: babylon5-wars@CSUA.Berkeley.EDU Finally got to take the Olympus out for a spin, here's the report about what went on- Fleets EA vs. Centauri EA Fleet 1 Omega Destroyer(EAS Excalibur) 2 Olympus Corvettes(EAS Apollo, EAS Artemis) 12 Aurora Starfuries 2 Civilian Freighters Centauri Fleet 2 Primus Battlecruisers 3 Vorchans 12 Sentris Map Setup- AB CD (didn't have room for more) Mission Objectives EA-Forces set up on edge of maps A/B. The objective is to escort the 2 civilian supply freighters to a jump gate at the edge of map c/d(center). The entire fleet starts at speed 4. Centauri-Drive off the defending forces and capture the civilian freighters. Destroy freighters as a last resort. Turn 1- For power allocation, the Omega deactivated a rear laser, the rear interceptors, and 1 particle beam to get an extra point of EW. No other ships altered their power. The EA fleet was arranged like this- F F=Freighter C=Olympus Corvetter C O C O=Omega Destroyer S=Starfury S F S Ships kept current speeds. Olympus Corvettes put in 2 DEW, and each targetted 1 Vorchan with 5. Omega Targeted Primus 1 with 7 EW, and had 2 defensive Centauri arranged their fleet in a staggered line, alternating Vorchan/Primus/Vorchan, with the Sentris and Vorchans 1 hex in front of the Primi. Vorchans started at speed 6, Primi at spd. 5, and Sentris at spd 7. Vorchan EW was defensive only, Primi targetted Olympus Corvettes. Movement- EA Capships won initiative, HCV's lost, and fighters lost. Freighters accelerated, and the Omega accelerated to 6 and slid to centerline Primus 1. Olympus Corvette Apollo move in behind the Omega, and the Artemis move in 2 hexes to the right of the Apollo.Starfuries set up right behind the Corvettes. Primi tried to centerline the corvettes, but it didn't work. Vorchans closed range,with 2 trying to flank on opposite side, and sentris moved out onto the extreme flanks. Turn 1-Combat Omega opened fire with HPC and HL and destroyed Primus 1's forward structure. 1 Railgun fired from each corvette, resulting in 1 miss and 1 twin array getting blown off a Vorchan. Primi opened fire with battle lasers(2 on each corvette), doing moderate damage to EAS Artemis, and minor damage to EAS Apollo. Turn 2-Power/EW Omega activated all particle beams, deactivated 3 lasers and 1 inteceptor to get 10 EW. No other ships changed power allocation. Omega targetted Vorchan 3 with 3 EW, and Primus 1 with 5 EW. Apollo targeted Primus 2 and a Vorchan, and Artemis targeted Primus 1 and a Vorchan. 2 Vorchans and a primus targetted the Omega. 1 Primus and 1 Vorchan targetted the more heavily damaged Olympus(EAS Artemis). Movement Omega Centerlined Primus 1. Primus 2 accelerated and centerlined the Omega. Olympus 2 overshot Primus 2, and ended up 2 hexes away from primus 1. 2 Vorchans centerlined the Omega, 1 on the port side and 1 dead ahead. 1 vorchan centerlined the Artemis. Fighters mixed it up behind the last vorchan. Combat Missles from the Olympus corvettes impact on Primus 1 and 2. Primus 2 takes damage to sensors, structure, and hanger as 3 missles slam into the primary. Primus 2 takes 3 hits also and loses 2 port battle lasers and takes some structure damage. Concentrated laser and plasma fire on EAS Artemis results in the corvette losing it's foreward structure. The omega fires 6 particle beams into the hull of Primus 1, resulting in a destroyed hanger and 4 boxes of structure remaining(argh!). 6 particle beams result in the loss of a plasma accelerator, and damaged retros and structure on a vorchan. Omega takes multiple twin array, plasma accelerator, and battle laser hits resulting in the loss of half the starboard structure, some fore struct, a heavy pulse, and the starboard thruster. 1 starfury drops out in the fighter combat, with 3 others taking minor damage. Starfury pilots temporarily forget how to aim and all 12 miss the sentris. Round 3 Centauri run away, primus 1 dumping all of it's remaining power into it's engine and frying it's main thrusters. 3 missles impact on it's aft, leaving about 10 boxes remaining. due to intensive defensive EW, 4 missles missed 2 fleeing vorchans. Overview- The Olympus is a nasty little ship, and those missles are lethal. It's a little hard to get into position to fire, but once you do the results are devastating. The railguns are nice, but the "no overkill" is really a pain when you do 26 damage to a twin array. My opponent never got in position to use his fighters against them, but the sentri isn't a very good anti-ship fighter anyways. BTW, the pulse cannons are not nearly as useful a weapon as those missle launchers(I didn't even get to fire all of my pulses!)
