Octurion is HARD to use, but can be effective. Note, ALWAYS deactivate those plasma streams. I have never used them (or even been able to) and that 14 power gives you 11 EW and 11 Thrust - hard to pass up! Again, the Dag'Kar was a pain, but with no costly fighters, I could spread my points out more = more fighters make it through. Report: Turn 1: Octurion takes 2 (of 3) ion torp hits to front. I, stupidly, had used my EW all offensive. Turned out it did no good, as I did not get the numbers I wanted to fire on his G'Quan. My ships were all at 6, Sentris at 12. He started at around 10. Turn 2: He fires all his heavy lasers and med. lasers at my Octurion. Only 1 Med. laser hits, and heavy lasers do moderate damage. My weapons fire is pathetic (2 stbd Battle Lasers and about 4 matter cannons) doing almost nothing to his lead G'Quan. One of my Altarians takes a beating from his ion torps. By now I have lost 1 1/2 flights to emines (and MAN, my fighters were going EVERYWHERE - I don't know HOW he kept hitting them!) Turn 3: Turned Octurion off (to stbd.) to bring my port 2 Battle Lasers and aft-port battle laser to bear, along with several more matter cannon shots and a hail of twin array fire, managed to remove most the weapons from one G'Quans front. Also, close range twin fire, combined with Sentris and a few lucky matter cannon hits manages to almost remove the front from a Thentus. By now, his Frazis are tangling with my Sentris, and destroyed an entire flight in one shot - I also lost a flight to emines, and 1/2 a flight to dropouts from a near-emine miss. Of couse, that same emine toasted a flight of Frazis ;^). Turn 4: More matter cannon fire (from alternating sides) hits his other G'Quan pretty hard - doing nice damage to its front. Twin fire almost removes its port side, it does toast its thruster. Turn 5: My damage: moderate damage to 3 sides of my Octurion, 1 Altarian with a front missing, about 1/2 my fighters toasted, moderate damage to all sides of my other Altarians. Narn: 1 G'Quan with missing weapons, 1 with a hardly hanging on front and stbd. 2 Thentus with missing fronts. As movement of this turn landed me in good positions for weapons fire, and he would not be recharged for most of his weapons for another turn (he had lost most of his med. lasers already) he conceded the game. Conclusion: The Centauri live or die by twin fire. The matter cannons, while a great weapon, is FAR too unpredictable. Sometimes you can take a G'Quans front structure off with 3 or 4 shots, sometimes it takes 3 or 4 shots to destroy a heavy laser! The battle laser also suffers from unpredictability. If you roll high (and I don't) then these weapons are for you. Twins tend to be much more stable, though. --Alex F ============================================== Access the Imperial Database New ships, scenarios, tactics, and play aids http://www.ImperialDatabase.base.org ============================================== _____________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail.
