Adventure #1 - "But You Didn't TELL Us She Was a Baroness...!"

Wesson, of course, does not have the funds currently to pay the party (Hey, they knew this going into the deal!). As a matter of fact, he's probably not going to have the funds or "items" to pay them with for about a month, as he's got to re-establish his network of contacts and get his workshop back in shape. So he sends the party back to Arrabar with a small box to deliver to a merchant (who helped provision them for the trek there) and a message for some bard.
On the journey back to the river (hoping to catch a ride on a river barge), the party is attacked by a small band of goblins. No sweat.
They manage to catch a river barge and hitch a ride downriver towards Arrabar. Along the way, a woman and a man (obviously some sort of bodyguard) also board (and end up haggling the price of passage to something quite a bit lower than the party did). About a day further, a group of Elf cavalry ride up along shore, and order the captain to pull to shore. The woman gets in an argument with him, obviously trying to avoid these Elves. The captain, however, is responsible for the barge & cargo, and he's not going to be able to get out of bowshot range. He reluctantly steers for shore, and he and his two crew stand by as several of the Elves board. They go for the woman, and the crewmen cover the bodyguard with crossbows to make sure he doesn't cause trouble.
He does. A crossbow misses and hits an Elf. Well, wouldn't you know it - a general melee starts to develop. The leader of the Elves rides off with the woman, and tells his second-in-command to just finish everyone off.
A number of interesting rolls in this combat - the bodyguard leaps off the barge, rolls exceptionally poorly, ends up breaking his collarbone and drowning; an Elvish rider winds up pinned under his horse when its knocked over; and the final Elf is put down as he flees on horseback by a double-effect Bolt of Fire, which knocks him off his horse, exceptionally bad roll, and he gets the Fractured Skull grievous injury!
The group ends up getting to town on the barge, with the captain (broken arm), a crewman, one captive (with a fractured skull who suffers from infection and nearly dies on the way) who is turned over to the city guard.
The next day they discover the woman was the Baroness de Ireby from some realm on the Northern Continent, and the Elf who captured her was a bandit leader known as the Dark Prince Denethor (a renegade, supposedly self-styled "prince" of the Shadow Elves).
